Last night Darryl went out for a late night walk, and I happened to be passing Eli's bedroom when I noticed he was choking on some pancakes he must have secreted from the fridge, and unable to breath. He seems to have low sensitivity in his mouth resulting in this kind of thing from time to time. I fished out what I could from his mouth which usually does the trick, but he was still not getting air.....so I started to feel that adrenaline rush and wondered what to do...ambulance would take too long, and then the benefits of my addiction to medical tv series kicked in...the Heimlich Manoeuvre! Of course! I grabbed Eli from behind and gave him a mighty squeeze, which still left him breathless, and then another - and presto! Pancake sludge went flying acrooss the room as he inhaled deeply. I, however, will never again feel guilty about watching re-runs fo ER or House...in fact I deem them essential!
We are both totally freaked out by this of course and my maternal nerves at leaving my admittedly adult age offspring for two whole weeks are fully shattered. Just what I need...
Just in case you are wondering, here is a video which is reflects the tone of my own efficient and cool Heimlich...
